A Movement of hope and healing

Over the past nine months we have stepped into partnership with Jamestown Elementary School and the Jamestown Family Resource Center. Take a moment and read the Center’s mission:

At the Jamestown Family Resource Center we are dedicated to              increasing the chances of success for all students enrolled at Jamestown       School and improving the lives of their families and other community                                                       members.

I love that. They’re not just giving food to families, they’re “improving lives” … “increasing the chances of success.” Here’s another way of saying that: they’re bringing hope and healing.

That’s what we are about, too. But recently as Eiley and I were talking about where we believe God is leading The Journey, Eiley asked an excellent question:

“Are we about bringing hope and healing, or do we want to be a movement of hope and healing?” After a couple days of thought, prayer, and more conversation, here’s my answer:

At The Journey, we want to be a movement of hope and healing.

That will mean working together with others in the community who share the vision of a transformed society – people like Mark Dyken at Jamestown Family Resource Center, dedicated to kids and their families; organizations like Interfaith Community Social Services, which provides food, clothing, and personal services to more than 700 Tuolumne County families every month; and Sonora 49er Rotary, which offers dictionaries and swim safety courses and college scholarships to students around the county.

I know many of you are involved in other areas and with other organizations that are making a difference. As we start learning what it means to be a church for the community, I’d love to hear from each of you about where God has you and where we might work together to be a movement of hope and healing for Tuolumne County … and the world!

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1st John 4:10 NIV
