God's will

As Christians, we want to know God's will. Usually, in my experience, that search is centered around big decisions or major life events: what college to go to, what career to pursue, who to marry, where to live, etc. Unfortunately, God's will in such cases can feel very elusive; we're left with more questions than answers ... left sort of flipping a coin and hoping for the best.

Because of that, whenever I see God's will explicitly stated in the Bible, it stops me in my tracks. Or at least it should. For one thing, it's rarely about particular decisions and far more often about how to live from day to day. That in itself should tell us something about God. (And it does.)

Here's what got me today. In 1st Peter 2:15 we read this:

"For it is God's will that you silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing good."

Can you imagine the impact if Christians would just live that out? How often have we tried to drown out ignorance by shouting louder? What if we changed our tactics and just went about doing good?

I'm going to try that. I hope you'll join me. Maybe the world will become a little quieter, a little more peaceful, a little ... well, better.

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1st John 4:10 NIV
