But here’s the really cool thing: I’m convinced that God is just getting started! I think he wants to do far more in us and through us in 2019. Here are some doors that are (or may be) opening:
Monthly Meal. Feed 30-40 kids in the after-school program at Jamestown School. (For some kids, this might be the best meal they eat all week.) At least one local business is already on board to support this. Can you help cook, deliver, or just hang out with the kids for an hour on a Tuesday afternoon?
Walking School Bus. Help kids get safely between home and Jamestown School. Volunteer to walk (with a partner or two) in the morning and/or the afternoon, once a week or more, escorting students between their nearby apartments and the school.
Mission Trip. Explore opportunities for The Journey to serve in Mexico. Last summer we heard from Erin & Wayne Hilliker, a local couple just beginning work with Mexican Medical; recently I talked with Steve Crews, the organization’s president, about the possibility of joining him and the Hilliker’s for a week this summer. If you’re interested in global missions, please come talk with me!
Children & Youth. We’re getting ready for a growth spurt! Allison Jones is laying the groundwork for the kids God will bring us this year; you can help, perhaps as simply as just being present. We also have four teen girls who have started a small group – they’d love to learn from some of you women; and men, the boys will come, too, and you have what they need! Be ready!
Charting the Course (Growth Track). Launching Feb 10, Charting the Course will explore The Journey Church’s core values (the Word, Church, Doing Life Together, and Prayer) and equip you to be part of fulfilling our Mission (reproducing disciples of Christ) through a 90-minute class focused on one of those essentials.
Your Heart. It may be that your heart hasn’t been grabbed by any of these. Who has God put there? The homeless? Prisoners? Young married couples? Addicts? Those grieving deep loss or facing devastating illness? Share your heart with me and let’s see how God will use you to bring hope and healing in our community and the world.
I love being your pastor – thanks for having me!
Pastor Randy
P.S. Speaking of all the cool things God is doing around The Journey …
this month we’ll resume our study through The Acts of the Apostles. Some pretty amazing stuff took place through people about as normal as you and me, simply because they were faithful to God. Make sure you tune in for this series, Sent!
