Vacations are always too short, but it is good to be back at The Journey! Thank you for your faithfulness over the past month - 77 through your presence, your giving, and your encouraging responses to both Pete Mar and JC Elliott as they filled in. I’ve heard good reports, too, about our Dinners Together as relationships are growing and new friends are being made.
August brings us the opportunity to look ahead to the rest of the year. Students want to make the most of the last days of summer before school starts up again; ministry leaders plan Fall themes and lessons; we look ahead to serving our community; and, yes, we start thinking about Christmas!
This month will be focused on some much-needed upgrades in our Children’s Ministry building. Flooring, paint, and doors are all on the agenda. We’re looking at options for air conditioning. The replacement slide for the playground is just waiting to be installed. You may be able to help with some of the work, so just let us know. And in order to accomplish what’s needed, we won’t have our normal children’s program on Sunday mornings, except for the Nursery.
Our series during August is The Age of Heroes. Each week we’ll look at a different Bible hero. We’ll have fun with Captain America, The Incredible Hulk, Spider Girl, and the Fantastic Four. And one thing we’ll find is that the Bible’s heroes are all ordinary people who God used in sometimes extraordinary ways … much like these superheroes that fill movie theaters today. (“Wait – where is Captain America in the Bible?”, you ask. I guess you’ll have to be here to find out!) These messages will be fun for the kids and the rest of us!
I’m so grateful for you, and that I get to be your pastor!
