JUst What the Doctor Ordered

The Journey church's Leadership Team has been talking and planning a fall kick-off with the hopeful introduction of several new in-home Journey Groups. One might ask, “Why have home groups? Isn’t attendance on Sunday morning enough?” The fact is if we likened attendance at school to attendance at church it would take several years to get out of the first grade, which means for most of us our spiritual growth is quite stunted. Another question might be, “Are home study groups only for the purpose of Bible Study or spiritual growth?” The short answer to that could be “No!” Journey groups can serve a variety of purposes. They may be designed for fellowship around a meal, or they could focus on a special interest such as fishing or motorcycles, four-wheeling or whatever else might interest you (shopping groups not recommended).

The BIG idea is to develop relationship-based communities throughout the region. Remember the early church did not meet in specially constructed buildings called churches, but they met in homes, and churches were born out of them. We read in Acts 2:16 that the church met both “in the Temple” and “house to house". Corporate worship in a local assembly is a good thing and should not be forsaken but that is NOT where close relationships develop.

An introductory move by several members of the Leadership Team have taken on the task of planning several picnics this summer, and I would say the level of relationships developed in those two picnics have surpassed anything we can experience in a large group setting. I want to thank Ray and Denise along with Dennis and Bev for taking this on. They have done a funtastic job.

If you are seeking good, solid, Bible-based spiritual teaching and growth while establishing relationships with truly loving Christian people, give us a visit to actually experience what we are all about.

In the meantime, God bless your life!
Pastor Jim Day

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1st John 4:10 NIV
