Whole Hearted

I hope you have been as encouraged and as challenged as I have through our Age of Heroes study this past month. We’ve seen that God uses all kinds of people to accomplish what he wants to accomplish: healthy and unhealthy, insiders and outsiders, believers and unbelievers. And that means that God wants to, can, and will use you and me, too. It doesn’t mean it will be easy, though—we may still face giants and furnaces, but God keeps his promise to “never leave nor forsake” us.

This Fall we are going to launch into a new series that is going to be a different type of challenge. In Whole Hearted, we will be learning how we can grow in health and maturity in every area of our lives: spiritual, emotional, social, intellectual, and physical. Only when we are healthy and mature in all areas can we be truly whole. Probably the hardest aspect for most of us is emotional health. Pastor and author Peter Scazzero writes this:

Emotional health and spiritual maturity are inseparable.
It is not possible to be spiritually mature while remaining                        emotionally immature.

As part of this journey, I want to encourage each person to join me in a 40-day journey toward greater emotional health and spiritual maturity. That journey will be guided by Scazzero’s devotional book, Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day. Copies will be available in the lobby for $8.00 beginning Sep 1, but we will begin reading it together on the 9th. (Please
do not let cost keep you from taking one.)

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1st John 4:10 NIV
