NEW EYES

10/5/2018

I was brought to tears recently as Pat Clark shared with me about visiting the Jamestown Family Resource Center. I’ll let her tell that story (see below); what really grabbed me was how a simple visit opened her eyes...and how, through those new eyes, God began to show Pat how she—and we—might make a difference.

God will give you new eyes, too, if you ask him. But do you have the courage? Will you ask for that healing? Be warned: it will change your life.

   Grateful to be your pastor.

Here's Pat...

Last week I had the privilege of shadowing my friend Candace, as she served at the Jamestown Family Resource Center. The Center is a small space that seeks to fill many needs.  The first thing I noticed when I walked in was a table stocked with non-perishable food items like baby food, breakfast cereal, crackers, and canned fruits and vegetables.  When a person in need comes through the door they are asked to sign in and then help themselves (with some guidance) to food that meets their need. But do you know what is missing??  Protein. Candace told me they cannot keep peanut butter, tuna, and mayonnaise (of all things!) in stock.

The center also serves as a meeting place for various community groups.  There are bins of clothes (not a lot but some) for emergencies, and boxes full of school supplies that are distributed as needed.

The director, Mark, was out visiting a student in crisis.  The families they serve come from all over Tuolumne County, the poorest of the poor.  Some have no electricity or running water.  This group includes the homeless, both children and adults, whose lives are currently on hold.  How can you learn at school when your mind is occupied with just the most basic of things?

There is much that can be done to help.  Emily has put a covered box in the entry of the church to collect mayonnaise, peanut butter, and tuna.  Hats and scarves for the cold season can be knit or crocheted and donated.  Volunteers are needed to keep the center open a few more hours each day.

What part will you play in this ministry?  I’ll have more later.

   Pat Clark

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1st John 4:10 NIV
