No one expects a gold miner to discover gold without hard work. The gold miner may pan or he may dig, break rocks and sluice, but if he is going to find that elusive treasure he is going to work. This is equally true for the Christian who is going to grow. The Bible is not understood through casual reading, for after all it is not a novel but is the written revelation of God. Some is written in parable and some in figurative language. Part is allegory and much is story telling. Obviously some is historical and much is prophetic, and yes, much of the Bible is to be understood literally. So how do we discover the elusive treasures of God’s truth?  IT IS THROUGH PERSONAL STUDY.

Consider 2nd Timothy 2:15  -  “Study to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that does not need to be ashamed because you rightly discern the Word of truth.” (My paraphrase).

You see we must study in order to rightly understand God’s message, and that study produces growth.

"Faith comes by hearing the message and the message is heard through the word of Christ." (Romans 10:17).

Through the years I have come to realize there are many fine believers who have not been equipped to explain their faith…”...a reason for the hope that is in them.” (1 Peter 3:15). With that in mind we have begun a new series called “THE GOLD MINE WORKBOOK.” This eight-week study will address many of the “basics” that are so important to our faith. Please consider joining us for this important series.

I also would draw our attention to a few exciting directions we are taking. On May 15 we had an installation service where we licensed Steve York as our new Associate Pastor/Youth. Steve is a fine young man with a proven record of successful ministry with young people, including setting up discipleship ministries on a dozen college campuses. Welcome aboard, Steve. Steve has also agreed to do discipleship ministry with us to further equip us for our work of ministry. I’m excited to see how his training coupled with our Gold Mine Study will enhance our effectiveness with outreach.

We also have the support of the Members to begin an outreach ministry this fall. The basic ideas have been established so now we need only take the necessary steps to be ready in September.

I invite you to come join us on Sunday in the fellowship of loving and caring people! God bless.

I LOVE being the pastor at the Journey church!
Pastor Jim

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. 1st John 4:10 NIV
